Sydney’s transport infrastructure boom; HLD on WestConnex and NorthConnex mega projects.

Sydney is currently amid a major transport infrastructure boom dominated by the construction of three major projects; the WestConnex motorway project, the NorthConnex tunnel project and the Sydney Metro Project, the largest public transport project in Australia’s history.

The new 33-kilometre WestConnex motorway will eventually connect two of Sydney’s main motorways – the M4 in western Sydney and the M5 in south-western Sydney and will provide vital links to Sydney’s main international gateways at Sydney Airport and Port Botany.

Conversely, the NorthConnex project currently under construction by Lendlease, will become the longest road tunnel in Australia when it is completed in 2019. At nine-kilometres long the tunnel, will link the M1 Pacific Highway at Wahroonga to the Hills M2 Motorway at West Pennant Hills.

Since 2016, HLD has been providing a range of technical and heavy lift planning services as well as peer reviews on both WestConnex and NorthConnex.

HLD managing director Blake Hammon said the company had worked on some amazing components of the projects’ construction requirements.

“From planning the drops of 40 tonne trucks down 30-metre deep shafts on WestConnex, to verifying the drops of 95-tonne tunnel-boring machines down 90-metre deep shafts at NorthConnex’s entry, they’ve been phenomenal projects to work on,”

“We’re very proud to have contributed to some of the biggest transport projects in Australia’s history” Added Mr Hammon.
