Lifting Bridges at Narellan

Narellan Bridge Heavy Lifts

The Australian and New South Wales Governments are funding a $114 million upgrade of 6.8 kilometres of Narellan Road, to reduce congestion and improve safety and travel times across South Western Sydney.

Engineering and construction contractor Seymour Whyte Constructions are currently building the second stage of the upgrade, which is expected to complete by mid-2018.

The current stage of works involves widening the northern bridge over the Hume Motorway and erecting a new pedestrian bridge on the southern side of Narellan Road.

HLD were appointed by WGC Cranes to oversee the technical planning required to lift a 31-tonne pre-fabricated steel bridge trough into place, on behalf of Seymour White Construction.

The impressive lift was performed overnight, in one continuous process using a Liebherr LTM1300 crane. The lift required the closure the main Southern freeway out of Sydney.

Blake Hammon, Managing Director of HLD said that the lifts took a highly intricate level of planning with an unusually large number of stakeholders.

“It was an exciting heavy lift to watch and a great achievement by all the stakeholders involved,” Mr Hammon said.
